Skipper's licences
Sailing a yacht or operating a coastal boat requires special knowledge and skills. A skipper's licence confirms that the holder has the relevant qualifications. There is a general licence requirement for those operating boats under the Swiss flag. Besides the inland licences, people can also acquire the Swiss Certificate for Maritime Navigation.

Certificate requirement
Anyone who wishes to sail a yacht or operate a coastal boat under the Swiss flag must hold a relevant certificate of competence.

Swiss Certificate for Maritime Navigation
The Swiss Maritime Navigation Office (SMNO) does not issue Swiss Certificates for Maritime Navigation, but has recognised and commissioned two external agencies for this purpose – the Cruising Club of Switzerland (CCS) and the Swiss Yachting Association (SYA).
