Swiss Certificate for Maritime Navigation
The Swiss Certificate for Maritime Navigation is a Swiss licence for pleasure craft in coastal waters and on the high seas, and is recognised in many countries. In order to operate a Swiss yacht, a valid Swiss Certificate for Maritime Navigation or equivalent foreign licence is required (see also certificate requirement).

The Swiss Maritime Navigation Office (SMNO) does not issue Swiss Certificates for Maritime Navigation, but has recognised and commissioned two external agencies for this purpose – the Cruising Club of Switzerland (CCS) and the Swiss Yachting Association (SYA). Both of these agencies can carry out the required examinations and issue a Swiss Certificate for Maritime Navigation for sailing vessels with or without an engine as well as motorised vessels.
Contact the CCS or SYA directly for details on how and when the examinations are carried out, training course dates, other formalities and costs etc.
The requirements for obtaining a Swiss Certificate for Maritime Navigation are set out in the related SMNO ordinance (available in French, German and Italian).
