National Armaments Director Urs Loher was in Singapore from 2 to 4 February 2026. There, amongst other things, he visited the armaments trade fair Singapore Airshow, which takes place every two years and at which Swiss companies are also represented. During his stay in Singapore, meetings with Singaporean authorities and representatives of the government also took place.
Memorandum of Understanding between Switzerland and Singapore
These bilateral work discussions with Singapore focused on national and international arms policy developments, ongoing bilateral projects and future opportunities for cooperation. In particular, ongoing work and development possibilities as part of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Switzerland and Singapore were discussed. The MoU approved in March 2025 enables Switzerland and Singapore to intensify their cooperation in the areas of defence research, development and innovation as well as the procurement of defence equipment.
First visit to South Korea
The National Armaments Director then flew on to Seoul, South Korea. There, meetings were held with authorities, organisations and various representatives from industry on 5 and 6 February 2026. The National Armaments Director also took part in discussions on national and international arms policy developments in South Korea. In addition, the visits focused on discussions concerning a potential reinforcement of cooperation. This was particularly important in light of the arms policy strategy
of the Federal Council, one of whose goals is to further intensify future armament cooperations with democratic nations outside of Europe, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region.
