Information for shipping companies and shipowners
The Swiss Maritime Navigation Office (SMNO) is the contact point for Swiss shipping companies and shipowners. It provides information and services in connection with commercial shipping as well as endorsements of foreign certificates in accordance with the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers, 1978 (STCW Convention).
Registration of commercial seagoing vessels
The registration of commercial seagoing vessels under the Swiss flag is quick and uncomplicated due to transparent and efficient administrative processes.
Endorsements for foreign certificates
Certificates of Competency (CoC) and of Proficiency (CoP) obtained abroad are recognised for serving on Swiss commercial seagoing vessels. Endorsements are issued on request.

The SMNO plays a central role in the implementation of international maritime regulations and ensures that these regulations are applied uniformly.
